Eden didn’t know it yet, but she was about to take the first jump over the hurdle she’d been dreading…as she walked towards the shower block at the Braeside Campground where they were sharing amenities. Like everything in her life recently, she was getting driven faster and faster towards places she’d been too scared to venture.

She was thinking about the day…lost in thought with a smile on her face as she tapped on the first shower door. “Anyone in?”

“Taken,” the voice said from behind the door.

She moved to the next door. Tap, tap, tap. “I’ll be finished soon,” the voice told her.

She moved on yet again. It was the last one in that block. If there was someone in that one, she would just wait for the next available shower. Someone would be finished soon.

“Is there anyone in there?” she said.

“Is that you, Eden?” She recognized the voice. It was Kayleigh, Razor’s old lady.

“Yeah. Don’t rush…I’ve got plenty of time.”

She hadn’t expected what happened next. Kayleigh pulled the door open and said, “Come in, I won’t be long.”

Kayleigh was naked and covered in soap and shampoo. She stepped back under the shower and closed her eyes as she let the water wash over her head. “Had a good day?” she asked.

Eden didn’t know where to look, but it was difficult to look anywhere other than the naked woman in front of her. She wished she could be free to do the same. “Yeah, I’ve been having a ball,” she said. “I’m so glad I came.”

Kayleigh still had her eyes closed as she said, “I think Cruz likes you.”

“You think?”

Kayleigh laughed. “I mean…like…really, really likes you.” She giggled and opened her eyes. Eden looked away quickly. “It’s nice to see him so happy,” she said. “And you look happy too.”

Eden was happy, but right now she was also embarrassed and nervous.

Kayleigh finished washing the soap off her and stepped out of the shower. “I’ll leave it running,” she said. “Won’t take me long to dry off.”

Eden panicked. Her breathing sped up and she felt faint.

Kayleigh could see there was something wrong, so she stopped what she was doing, turned off the shower, and wrapped her towel around her body. She stepped up to Eden and held her shaking hands. “What’s up?”

Eden looked into Kayleigh’s eyes and burst into tears. She hadn’t realized just how much she’d feared this moment, and it was only with Kayleigh…not Cruz.

She bent her knees and squatted down on the floor, a blubbering mess. Kayleigh bent down beside her and wrapped her arms around her shoulder while Eden sobbed. “Did I say something wrong?” Kayleigh asked.

Finally, between gulps of air, Eden managed to say, “It’s not you.”

“Hey, babe… you can tell me. If it’s something you don’t want anyone else to hear, trust me, I won’t tell a soul. Not even Razor.”

She could see that Eden wanted to stand back up, so she moved away and helped her to her feet.

“What’s up, Eden?” Kayleigh asked in a soft low voice.
